You don't get diabetes from eating too much sugar, but you can get it from being obese, and sedentary. It is also hereditary, so if Mom and Dad both have diabetes you may have the gene that predisposes you to it. Even if Grandpa had it and Mom or Dad don't you can still inherit the gene.
Sugar is a simple carbohydrate and a teaspoon only has 16 calories. The problem is it is not that sweet and it takes many teaspoons to make things sweet enough. A can of soda has about 17 teaspoons of sugar.
The bad thing about too much sugar is that there is NO nutrition in it and it can give you dental cavities.
Your activity level is great and you need to consume lots of carbohydrates. Try some healthy carbs like fresh fruit, whole grain cereals (oatmeal, raisin bran) and starchy vegetables (sweet potatoes, corn, peas, carrots). Eating a well rounded meal plan that includes protien and dairy will help you to reach your potential in sports and life.

For one thing you are consuming way to much junk food. or your eating all those carbs to be a long long distant runner...Sugar it self will not give you diabetes all though x amount of starchy food just might. I don't know how old you are but I am sixty two years old and if I eat what you are eating they would have to pill me off the celling Have fun this summer, but instead of milk duds, cheetos and chips grab yourself a piece of fruit the sugar in fruit will brake down faster in your body and there are no preservatives in fruit...beside there is nothing taster then a apple out of the fridge. and while eating it go for a short walk. It sounds like you are really concerned about diabetes changing your food habits will decrease the chances of you getting it.

First of all it depends on your heredity. I'm a type II diabetic, it runs in the family- and I've reversed it two times with diet and exercise. The third time, it wasn't as easy and I now take R-Lipoic acid over the counter- a very low dose but necessary.

Of course, you need to balance your diet. Processed sugars aren't good for anybody. If diabetes runs in your family, you can possibly prevent it by eating right to begin with. Little or no processed sugars, few if any potatoes (worse then sugar to a diabetic), no white bread (get the stuff with lots of fiber). And eat several small meals/day. Never eat JUST sugar- as it will raise your blood sugar rapidly, then it will drop just as rapidly and that's stressful on the body trying to keep a sensible balance. Type II diabetes is quite often preceded by hypoglycemia.

<a href=""></a>

My dad died of diabetes, and I know I dont want it either, it is a heredity thing too, so check with your parents to see if it is in the family, if it is, be more careful, if you are really worried, go get your blood sugar checked with a doctor, and they can tell you. weight has a lot to do with it too, so if you are over weight, that is a big thing too..

<a href=""></a>

diabetes is normally past down by family members.. but poor health practices in life can make u develop diabetes.. but it still goes back to family... for example, if u and started smoking at the same time we both wont necessarily get lung cancer at the same time its an individual thing
