It could be diabetes I, but the only way to find out is to test the urine or blood for sugars. This is very simple and can be done at your pediatricians office. I was concerned about my son for the same reasons, and he was fine. Call your doc NOW!! Then you can have some peace of mind. Good luck!

If your worried have a test taken it will help you rest better
But on a lighter side our 3 year old drinks a lot and we have discovered that he does it because he acting like us.
If he sees any of the four us drink he needs a drink to and like us drinks a full given amount. He also likes to drink our drinks to feel like a big boy.

Lucky we drink lots of water and milk so we let him have a drink with us . When I say he drinks allot I I mean a full cup of water or juice or milk each time....So it can be she is wanting to be a big girl just like you, think about it you may be teaching her a great lesson and not even know it.
Have a great time and remember mommies worry because they have love to give I rather hear you are concerned than not aware of what is going on.

all of these are very good answers. My 5 year old is the same way, so I had her tested. She was fine and had no problems. I guess she just likes to stay hydrated! I say just have your child tested to be on the safe side, its quick and easy..

I think you are right in being concerned. What does your pediatrician say? Is she losing weight? Usually children have Type I diabetes, if that is what she truly has.
She may be drinking because it is an easier way to take in calories and keep on going. Perhaps she doesn't want to take the time to eat. But, by all means, check it out with the doctor. I wish you luck.

My son will be 4 on Monday and he has always been that way. Very thirsty all the time. He can finish a drink in seconds and turn around and ask for more. My dad is the same way and has been his entire life. Both have been tested for diabetes because it runs in my family but they both came out negative.

It may be that she is just thirsty at certain times of the day -- but to ease your mind, I would certainly have her seen by the pediatrician. At her age, diabetes could be very serious.

I think you're fine - she propably drinks just the right amount ( for her age I think it really is like 4-5 cups), it just seems a lot since lot of kids - and adults - generaly don't drink enough ( try to measure your intake - 8 cups, whee, thats a lot)
